ENGRAM

A mental image picture of an experience containing pain, unconsciousness and a real or fancied threat to survival. A recording in the Reactive Mind of something which actually happened to an individual in the past and which contained pain and unconsciousness, both of which are recorded in the mental image picture called an engram.

Usage

In auditing, the preclear is guided to locate and discharge engrams — mental image pictures containing pain and unconsciousness from past experiences that are stored in the reactive mind. A specific engram might be restimulated by present-time circumstances that resemble the original incident, causing irrational reactions or psychosomatic pain.

Why It Matters

Engrams are the primary content of the reactive mind and the source of aberrated behavior and psychosomatic illness. Locating and erasing engrams through auditing is fundamental to freeing a person from the reactive mind's influence.
