BASIC

The first incident, such as an engram or overt act, of a chain of similar incidents.

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

When running a chain of similar incidents in auditing, the auditor works to find the basic — the very first incident on that chain, such as the earliest engram or overt act. Reaching the basic is necessary to fully resolve the chain.

Why It Matters

The basic is the foundational incident that holds an entire chain of similar experiences in place. Until the basic is found and addressed, later incidents on the chain will continue to have force.
