SIGNIFICANCE
A word which is used in the special sense to denote any thought, decision, concept, idea, purpose or meaning in the mind in distinction to its masses. (The mind is basically composed of masses and significances.)
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
When an auditor encounters a preclear stuck on an idea or decision rather than confronting the mass connected to it, that thought, concept, or meaning is referred to as a significance. The mind is composed of both masses and significances.
Why It Matters
Understanding the distinction between significances and masses allows the auditor to identify what the preclear is dealing with in session and address the correct element to produce case change.
