BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose a person has had since he was very young — what he is fundamentally here to do. Talent, natural personality and basic purpose tend to arrive together as a single package rather than being picked up along the way.

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

A person who was drawing before he could write, and who is still happiest making things, is showing his basic purpose. It was there before anyone taught him anything about it.

Why It Matters

A person cut off from his own basic purpose tends to feel that his life is not his. Auditing that puts him back in touch with it often restores more drive than any amount of encouragement could.
