LOCK
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
In auditing, a lock is identified as a recent disturbing incident that upset the person, but its real force comes from an earlier, more painful engram or secondary it has reactivated. For example, a harsh word from a boss might act as a lock on an earlier engram containing similar content.
Why It Matters
Locks explain why seemingly minor events can cause disproportionate upset. By tracing locks back to the underlying engrams and secondaries in auditing, the charge on all of them can be relieved, freeing the person from repeated restimulation.
