LIVING

Having and following a purpose. (Only if an individual has a purpose toward which he works, can he be said to be truly alive, rather than just existing.)

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

A person who has a clear purpose they are actively working toward — whether in their career, family, or personal growth — is truly living, as distinguished from merely existing.

Why It Matters

This definition connects living to purpose, meaning a person without a purpose they are following is merely existing rather than alive in the fullest sense. Helping individuals find and pursue meaningful purposes is central to Scientology practice.
