REACTIVE
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
A person behaving reactively is acting on automatic responses dictated by their reactive mind rather than making rational decisions based on what is actually happening in present time. For example, someone who irrationally lashes out at a harmless remark is reacting rather than acting.
Why It Matters
Distinguishing reactive behavior from self-determined action is central to Scientology practice, as the goal of auditing is to free a person from the stimulus-response dictates of the reactive mind. Recognizing reactive behavior is the first step toward addressing its source.
