SOMATIC

Physical pain or discomfort of any kind, especially painful or uncomfortable physical perceptions stemming from the Reactive Mind.

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

During auditing, a preclear may report a somatic such as a headache, pressure, or sharp pain that turns on as the session addresses material from the Reactive Mind. The auditor notes these physical sensations as indicators of charge being contacted.

Why It Matters

Somatics are significant in auditing because they are physical manifestations of mental content stored in the Reactive Mind, and their appearance and resolution indicate that underlying incidents are being addressed.
