RESTIMULATOR

Anything in the individual's surroundings which is sufficiently similar to something in his or her Reactive Mind that it causes part of his Reactive Mind to become re- stimulated.

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

A restimulator could be a smell, a sound, a person's tone of voice, or any environmental element that is similar enough to the content of an engram or other reactive mind material to cause it to activate. A person who becomes inexplicably upset around a certain type of perfume may be encountering a restimulator connected to an incident in their reactive mind.

Why It Matters

Identifying restimulators helps explain why people react irrationally to seemingly harmless things in their environment. In auditing, addressing the underlying reactive mind content removes the power of the restimulator, so it no longer triggers unwanted reactions.
