MEST

The physical universe. A word coined from the initial letters of Matter, Energy, Space and Time, which are the component parts of the physical universe. Also used as an adjective, in the same sense to mean physical - as in "MEST universe", meaning the "physical universe at large".

Usage

When someone refers to the MEST universe, they mean the physical universe composed of Matter, Energy, Space and Time. A statement like 'he is too focused on MEST' means the person is overly concerned with physical-universe objects and conditions.

Why It Matters

The concept of MEST provides a clear way to distinguish the physical universe from the spiritual aspects of existence — the thetan and theta. This distinction is central to Scientology's framework for understanding the relationship between a spiritual being and the physical world.
