MENTAL MASS
Actual mass carried in the pictures the mind holds. It has weight, size and shape, though it is far thinner and lighter than the real objects the pictures are of. It builds up because the person would not look at something.
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
A person who feels heavy, dull and weighed down about a subject is carrying mental mass on it. It piles up wherever he has turned away rather than faced something.
Why It Matters
That the mind's pictures have real mass is what makes the E-Meter able to register them. It also explains why facing something honestly produces an immediate feeling of lightness.
