AFFINITY

Degree of liking or affection or lack of it. (This is often expressed as an emotion- enthusiasm towards a person betokens more affinity than apathy.)

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

A person who feels enthusiasm toward another person is demonstrating a high degree of affinity, while someone in apathy toward another is showing very low affinity. In auditing, changes in a preclear's affinity level toward people and life are closely observed.

Why It Matters

Affinity is one of the three components of understanding in Scientology, along with reality and communication. The degree of affinity a person has toward something directly affects their ability to communicate about it and find it real.
