ALTER-IS

To change or falsify the way something actually is.

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

When someone changes an account of what actually happened to make it seem different, they are alter-ising. In an organizational setting, alter-ising orders or instructions means changing them from what was originally communicated.

Why It Matters

Alter-is is significant because changing or falsifying the way something actually is prevents it from being resolved or understood. Recognizing alter-is in communication and reporting is essential to maintaining accurate information in auditing and organizational activity.
