NOT-IS-NESS
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
Not-is-ness occurs when someone tries to make something vanish or cease to exist by using force rather than simply viewing it as it is. For example, a person trying to suppress an unwanted memory by force is engaging in not-is-ness, which creates only an apparency of it being gone.
Why It Matters
Not-is-ness is significant because it cannot entirely vanquish an is-ness — the thing persists underneath the effort to force it away. Understanding this principle explains why problems that are suppressed rather than confronted tend to persist and worsen.
