CONDITIONS OF EXISTENCE
The three things that make up living: be, do and have. Being is taking on an identity, such as your name or your profession. Doing is action — getting somewhere, achieving something. Having is owning and being able to take charge of things.
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
A person who wants to have a garden must first do the gardening, and to do that he has to be a gardener. Trouble with having something often turns out to be trouble with being the person who would have it.
Why It Matters
These three cover the whole of life between them and are given in that order of importance. Much of what looks like a practical problem is really one of these three being out.
