NECESSITY LEVEL

This is a person's ability to rise above his or her aberrations when his action is required to handle an immediate and serious threat to his survival.

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

When facing an immediate and serious threat to survival, a person can rise above their aberrations through necessity level, performing far beyond their usual capacity. A parent rescuing a child from danger is an example of necessity level overriding normal limitations.

Why It Matters

Necessity level demonstrates that aberrations are not absolute barriers — a person can push through them when survival demands it. This principle is relevant in auditing and in life, as it shows the thetan's inherent ability to overcome reactive patterns.
