MISUNDERSTOOD WORD
A word a person did not understand, or understood wrongly, and went past anyway. It also covers a symbol, an idea or a position that was not grasped. Often shortened to a misunderstood, or M/U.
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
A student who has gone blank and cannot take in any more has almost always gone past a word he did not understand a little way back. Finding that word and clearing it up brings the material back to life.
Why It Matters
One unhandled word does not stay small: it produces the blankness, the boredom and the dropped-out student. This is why word clearing exists as a subject of its own.
