CLEAN HANDS
Being free of hidden wrongdoing — nothing withheld, nothing to be found out. A person with clean hands has nothing he is guarding, which is why he can be helped.

Usage
Someone carrying a secret he is afraid will surface spends part of his attention guarding it, and that guarding gets in the way of any help he is offered. Once the withholds are told, his hands are clean and the help lands.
Why It Matters
Hidden acts do most of their damage by being hidden, not by being large. This is why disclosure comes before progress rather than after it.
