CLEANING A CLEAN

Attempting to clean up or deal with something that has already been cleaned up or dealt with that wasn't troublesome to the person in the first place.

From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.

Usage

If an auditor continues to address something that has already been handled or was never troublesome to the preclear, that is cleaning a clean. For example, asking repeated questions about an area the preclear has no difficulty with would be this error.

Why It Matters

Cleaning a clean wastes auditing time and can make the preclear feel something is wrong when nothing is. Recognizing when something is already handled is an important auditing skill.
