FOUNDING CHURCH
The Founding Church of Scientology of Washington, D.C., established in 1955. "Founding" in the name refers to that particular organization; it is not a general description that other organizations may use.

Usage
A lecture series recorded in Washington in the late 1950s was usually given at the Founding Church. For a short period in 1959 the New York organization was also referred to that way, but the name properly belongs to Washington.
Why It Matters
Washington, D.C. was the centre of the subject through the second half of the 1950s, and a great many recorded lectures come from there. The name appears constantly in material from those years.
