TONE ARM
Meter control lever on a physical E-Meter or virtual e-meter (software) that has dual meanings. It can mean the level at which the tone arm is at in value (showing the current resistance of the mind to electrical flow by the meter) or it can mean the amount of downward motion of the tone arm, which equates to dissipated mass in a given session, or case gain.
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
During an auditing session, the auditor adjusts the tone arm on the E-Meter to keep the needle at set. The amount of downward tone arm motion in a session represents mass that has been dissipated, indicating case gain.
Why It Matters
The tone arm is a key indicator on the E-Meter because its position shows the resistance of the mind to electrical flow, and its movement reflects actual change occurring in the preclear's case.
