Q AND A

(noun) A failure to complete a cycle of action. (verb) To fail to complete a cycle of action; to deviate from an intended course of action. (Q derives from question and A derives from answer. The term Q and A means that the exact answer to a question is the question itself if one follows completely the duplication part of the definition of communication. However, it came to mean that the auditor did what the preclear did or changed when the preclear changed. A later definition was "Questioning the pre-clear's answer". Q and A is precisely defined, in auditing, as "a failure to complete a cycle of action on a preclear".)

Usage

If an auditor asks a preclear a question and then drops it to follow a different topic the preclear brings up, that is Q and A — a failure to complete the cycle of action on the preclear. It also applies outside of auditing: any time someone deviates from their intended course because of another's response.

Why It Matters

Completing cycles of action is fundamental to effective auditing and to getting results in life. Q and A prevents resolution because the original action never reaches its intended result, leaving the preclear's case unhandled on that point.
