GRADIENT

A gradual approach to something, taken step by step, level by level, each step or level being, of itself, easily surmountable-so that, finally, quite complicated and difficult activities or high states of being can be achieved with relative ease. This principle is applied to both Scientology processing and training.

Usage

In Scientology training, a student learns complex subjects by taking them on a gradient — step by step, with each level easily surmountable before moving to the next. The same principle applies in processing, where a preclear is guided through gradual steps toward higher states of being.

Why It Matters

The gradient principle makes it possible to achieve difficult or complex results by breaking them into manageable steps. Violating the gradient — attempting something too advanced too soon — is a recognized barrier to learning and progress in both training and auditing.
