STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
The sequence of steps an auditor followed, from 1952 to 1953, to produce a Theta Clear. It came out in several issues as it developed, the first being called "Procedures for Theta Clearing". Usually shortened to SOP.

Usage
The steps are numbered with Step I as the most advanced. The auditor tested the person at Step I and worked downwards through the numbers until he found a step the person could actually do, then started there and worked his way back up.
Why It Matters
Starting where the person can succeed and working upwards, rather than starting at the top and failing, is the idea that this procedure introduced. It runs through everything that follows.
