SAD EFFECT
From the AOGP Abridged Scientology Dictionary — based on original LRH source materials, updated through 1982.
Usage
A person in sad effect has sunk into deep sadness, apathy, and misery as a result of a heavy ARC break that was not handled or was overwhelmed. This condition goes beyond ordinary unhappiness — it is a specific state brought on by severely broken affinity, reality, or communication.
Why It Matters
Recognizing sad effect is important in auditing and in organizational life because it identifies the specific cause — a neglected or overwhelmed ARC break — which points directly to the handling. Addressing the underlying ARC break can lift the person out of this condition.
